Yes, yes, I understand that it is rare that I make an actual contribution to the world of online blogs. I'm generally just a browser who fills out the occasional survey. Here's my attempt to change that. Tonight, I watched Cool Hand Luke with Chris and came to the realization that Paul Newman is the single most attractive man that I've ever laid eyes on. However, things became far more downbeat after I began making dinner, sipping on a Red Stripe, listening to the gender struggles of Antony. I miss people, and my crises of faith. When I'm not in the midst of a faith crises, it seems I'm instead in the midst of complacency. Life is slow... though tonight I hope to speed it up with the Flaming Wheel of Destruction and some seedy bar hopping. I still feel hopelessly lost/alone. That's something I just haven't been able to lick. But I do have plenty who care about me, so I really should be able to. All except this one girl who honestly believes that she can't be my friend because I manage to be both liberal and Christian at the same time. She also doesn't like the pronoun I use to describe God. But when I ask God, she tells me she's fine with it. What can you do? I used to post a lot of poetic crap, but the well's been dry for a while. Oh well. Speaking of dry wells, I guess that's all the post I can muster for today. Maybe sometime I'll come up with something profound or make some riveting criticism of the status quo. All in good time... all in good time. |

So, I am completely different from who I was before this weekend. I have my own apartment now. I have my own car... I have my own cell phone. I'm independent in more ways than I had been previously. However, somethings never change. I'm still incredibly lonely and discontent, and pretty disatisfied with some of the directions my life seems to be going. I miss my mother every second of every day. I'm out of clean clothes... but I have my own laundry capabilities at my new apartment, and that my friend is sweet. I also hate suburban DC, because it is suburban, and near DC. And, as much as I hate pop country, I heard a description of the ultimate country life the other day... I liked it.
My grandparents are moving up here. I finally be like most central Pennsylvanians and have my family all around, eating with them on Sunday nights. It will be pleasent. I'm turning 21 in little over a month. That too will be joyous.

Once again, I've made an attempt to write, and again, it will probably remain unfinished, but in the spirit of artistic exhibitionism, here's a taste... or maybe just the entirety of what I've written thus far.
“Hi, my name is Drew,” I said shyly. “Oh, hi… my name is ****,” she replied, turning her gaze quickly to her hands in an understandably cautious fashion. I was currently attempting to pull some shy boy game, but that was in fact a disposition considerably foreign to me. Despite my better efforts, I could never be the delightfully distant boy on the big screen that so many girls would fawn over while I sat beside them mulling over why they ‘only wanted to be friends.’ On this particular occasion, I had been at a party for quite some time, mingling enough to ensure that I didn’t draw the concern of my friends while simultaneously keeping to myself enough in order to hopefully attract some longing and searching eye. Sadly, that plan of attack was failing me, so I tried to take matters into my own hands. So, after feigning interest in the music working its way out of the speaker cabinet that sat next to me in the corner of the living room, I slowly pulled myself out of the second hand couch and approached ****, except that I hadn’t yet a clue as to what ****’s name actually was.
She was a very pretty girl, keeping to herself in a similar fashion by hovering next to the bookshelf that displayed my friend’s pretentious collection of French poetry. Her hair was short and trendy, with a perfectly executed arrangement of product and hairclips that fascinated my uneducated male mind. Her unashamed highlights had first drawn my attention, subsequently followed by her array of facial hardware. Although my mom might not have approved, I thought that maybe I should take a shot, introduce myself, and see where things went. However, whether fortunately or unfortunately, I have always had a hard time hiding the intent in my eyes. Despite my earnest attempt to appear only mildly interested, somewhere within my pupils shined an incriminating tip-off as to my actual purpose. Thus, I could never seem to keep it ice cold.
“Where are you from?” I then asked. “Around,” she responded tersely. It didn’t take long for me to pick up on her disinterest. Coming to grips with my defeat, I then threw her some pre-recorded lines of small talk in order to smooth out my exit from the conversation. The move was affective for she seemed neither offended nor delighted as I told her I’d see her around, walking off with my hands nervously held within the pockets of my jeans. I eyed my still vacant spot on the couch and headed there directly as I tried to press the reset button on my failed game. I was starting to worry that the reset button was going to get worn out from the repeated pressings. |
